Amateur Astronomy Club
The Amateur Astronomy Club, the oldest and most active at NITK Surathkal, has long nurtured curiosity about the cosmos. Through stargazing nights, science tours, projects, and flagship events like Astrofest, the club makes astronomy engaging and accessible. With three telescopes and four SIGs—Astronomy, Astrophysics, Astronautics, and Astroverse—we offer students hands-on exploration, learning, and discovery under the stars.
Astronomy
Observation
Dedicated to sky-watching, this SIG hosts stargazing, telescope viewings, and night-sky events, bringing students closer to the cosmos.
Astrophysics
Theory
Focused on the science of the universe, it explores black holes, galaxies, particle physics, and cosmology—the “why” behind what we see.
Astronautics
Application
Where engineering meets space, this SIG works on rocketry, satellites, and space-tech projects, offering hands-on innovation beyond Earth.
Media & Publicity
Stories & Imagination
Crafting narratives that inspire, this SIG manages creative content, design, and outreach—spreading ideas through words, visuals, and media to connect people and spark imagination.
